FAQ's

What makes RADL packs different?

RADL packs are built for durability, comfort under load, and simplicity. We intentionally avoid excessive compartments and fragile ultralight materials. The design centers around a large U-zip for fast access, CCubed foam padding for heat and moisture wicking as well as overall comfort, and heavy-duty 900D fabric for long-term durability. They are built to be used hard for years.

Who are RADL packs for?

RADL packs are for people who want one pack that can handle real use. Up to week long backpacking trips. Rucking. Travel. Hunting. Long day hikes. First-timers building confidence. Experienced hikers who are tired of replacing gear every few seasons.

Are RADL packs ultralight?

No. RADL packs are not ultralight. They are durable-first. If shaving every ounce is your top priority, there are brands that specialize in that. RADL prioritizes comfort, longevity, and structure under load.

How much do RADL packs weigh?

Current RADL packs weigh approximately 5.3 pounds. The weight comes primarily from the 900D fabric, structured frame, and seat-foam padding.

How much weight can the pack carry comfortably?

RADL packs are designed to carry heavier loads comfortably due to their structured frame and padded hip belt. They are built to handle extended trips with real gear, not just minimalist setups. We recommend that you carry around 20% of you body weight but the pack can carry up to 75 lbs.

What trips are they best for?

Multi-day backpacking

Rucking

Travel

Extended day hikes

Hunting

Family overnights

They are versatile by design.

How do I choose the right size?

Choose based on torso length, not height. Measure from the base of your neck (C7 vertebra) to the top of your hip bones. Our harness system is adjustable for a 18-23 inch torso

Are they comfortable for long trips?

Yes. Comfort was one of the primary design priorities. The shoulder straps and hip belt use CCubed foam technology that is very plush while wicking moisture and heat away from the body. The hollow aluminum frame transfers load to the hips, reducing shoulder fatigue, while still being flexible for your movements.

Why use 900D fabric?

900D fabric dramatically increases abrasion resistance and lifespan. It holds up to rocks, brush, vehicle beds, airport travel, and long-term use. We chose durability over disposable lightness.

Why are there fewer pockets?

We intentionally stripped the exterior down. One lid pocket. Side water pockets. Large U-zip access. That’s it. Too many compartments create clutter and fragility. Simplicity forces intentional packing and reduces failure points. Just inside the U-zip are two more storage pockets for quick access.

Can I attach extra gear externally?

Yes. We included daisy chains on each side of the pack and on the bottom. We also include 4 extra utility straps so you can customize your setup. The design allows for external attachment of sleeping pads, bedrolls, and additional gear. It remains clean but adaptable.

Will it fit a bear canister?

Yes, we intentionally made the lid so you can fit a standard bear canister on the top of your pack making your food easy to access during breaks and keeping the pack open for other needed gear. You can also fit one inside the main compartment. The U-zip makes loading bulk items easier than traditional top-only access.

Is it waterproof?

Even though most packs claim water resistance they get wet after even just a few minutes in rain thereby requiring a rain cover. For that reason we just recommend you get a rain cover if you anticipate rain. Most 65L covers fit our pack.

Where are RADL packs made?

RADL packs are designed in Bonsall, California and manufactured in Vietnam with experienced production partners. We chose our manufacturer based on quality and reliability, not just price.

Why are RADL packs priced the way they are?

The price reflects heavy-duty materials, structured frame systems, high-denier fabric, quality manufacturing, and small-batch production. They are built to last years, not seasons.
