In the summer of 2021, I took my two oldest kids on the John Muir Trail. Our trip stretched to nearly a month. That first week tested them in ways no amount of training could have fully prepared them for—day after day of pushing their limits, both physically and mentally. But then something shifted. They found their trail legs, and the struggle gave way to something deeper. The rest of the trip was smoother, filled with moments we still talk about, moments only we truly understand.
